Bass Lake Ranger District, Sierra National Forest, California

$41/night with no potable water, no showers, and vault toilets is a real ask. If you're bringing an RV, the rough access road and primitive layout will cause problems before you even pick a site.

Located along Willow Creek, Greys Mountain Campground is located near Bass Lake and closest available services. The campground has 26 campsites, provides vault toilets and each site has picnic tables and fire rings. Access to the facility is paved and dirt.

The elevation is 5,400 ft. The campground, a.k.a. Greys, stretches along Willow Creek in two sections. The section to the left of campground's entrance is very rustic with a wilderness, dispersed feel. The camp sites are tucked in tightly among conifer trees and next to creek; it is not RV friendly. A dirt road winds through this section after a steep drop from the main road. The second section is smaller and less shaded. This section features a delightful mixture of conifers providing ample shade, newer vaults, and well defined parking aprons making it better suited for RVs. Above this section, up an informal path, is a pleasant waterfall and pool. Because the campground does stretch out a bit, some camp sites have excellent privacy. A good day trip is Shadow of the Giants located in the Nelder Grove of giant sequoias. Firewood is available for a fee. This is bear country; practice safe food storage tecniques.
Open Memorial Day weekend through October 1.
The parking aprons are informal and irregular in size. The interior road is narrow, rough, and rocky. Recommend small RVs only.
From Oakhurst, CA, take State Rt. 41 north 2.2 miles to Road 632. Turn right at sign onto Road 632 and go 1 mile to a "Y" intersection. Bear left, staying on Road 632, and go 7.4 miles to another "Y" intersection. Bear right and go 0.7 miles to a "Y" intersection. Bear right again and go 1.1 miles to campground. NOTE: Last 1.8 miles is a rough road with large potholes - not RV friendly. Forest Rt. 632 is part of Sierra Vista Scenic Byway.

Summer brings the most reliable conditions, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to mid-80s°F and cool nights dropping into the 40s-50s°F. The campground opens late May through early October when access roads are clear. Humidity stays low, and clear skies dominate most days. Families flock here to escape valley heat. Expect moderate crowds on holiday weekends but generally peaceful stretches between. Snow blankets the area in winter, though the campground closes for the season.
Peak season Memorial Day to Oct 1; summer reviews praise family gatherings and pleasant temps.
Potable water is not available at this site.
