Go if

Hikers and lake day-trippers who want a small, quiet base near Rock Creek Lake in July or August. Sites have bear boxes, potable water, and enough room for a 24-foot trailer, and host Albert keeps the place genuinely clean.

Skip if

The campground is closed right now pending a new restroom facility, check recreation.gov before booking. Also, big rigs over 24 feet won't fit, and the steep, potholed access road has frustrated more than one reviewer on arrival.
