Granite Creek, Sierra National Forest
Tent campers who haul their own water and want a free, quiet base for fishing and canyon hiking will get the most out of this. Spring is the sweet spot: wildflowers, full creek, mild temps, and fewer crowds than summer holiday weekends.
No potable water on-site, vault toilets are a long walk from the lower loop sites, summer mosquitoes are relentless, and the access road is rough. Anyone expecting even basic comforts will leave frustrated.
