The campground is closed right now for hazard tree removal, so confirm it's reopened before making the drive. Even when open, logging trucks cut through the campground, sites are packed tight with no privacy, and there's zero potable water despite spigots being present.

The campground is in an area of mixed species of pine and fir. There are two small lakes for trout fishing, three to four acres each. No motorized boats allowed. Swimming is not recommended.

The elevation is 6,000 ft. This pack it in, pack it out campground has two unnamed loops in a stand of mature conifers, including Douglas and White fir. The campground is tight and compact and is best suiteded for tents, slide-ins, and pop-up campers. With sites close together, privacy is minimal to poor. Towering Douglas fir provide ample shade. Sites in the loop to the right of campground's fee board have grilles while most sites in left loop have a fire-ring and Klamath oven. The sites in the loop on left side, have more erosion and irregular parking apron surfaces. The campground's interior road is treelined and narrow with tight curves and heavily eroded. Hot showers and limited groceries are available at Black Butte River Ranch located at the intersection of Route 162 and FH-1. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
