No potable water on-site means hauling every drop you'll drink. Add no showers, cash-only firewood, active bears and mice in vehicles, and altitude that hits some visitors hard. RVs can't stay here at all.

Fall delivers the best conditions. Golden aspens, crisp air, and fewer visitors make September and October ideal for photography and hiking. Daytime highs range from 40–60°F, with nightlows often dropping below freezing by late September. Summer nights stay cold even during warm days, so bring a warm sleeping bag regardless of season. The elevation can cause altitude sickness for some visitors. Clear skies in fall create excellent stargazing conditions.
