A family campground with most sites in shade. 20 campsites.

The elevation is 7,500 ft. The campground stretches along Big Pine Creek, in Big Pine Canyon, with many camp sites overlooking the creek. Sagebrush is the ground cover. Jeffrey pines and some deciduous trees offer limited shade. Enjoy views of Palisades Glacier (most southern glacier in the US) and some peaks in the John Muir Wilderness. Good base camp for anglers wanting to test the fishing opportunities found in the many surrounding lakes. Firewood is available for a fee. The nearby Glacier Lodge offers limited supplies and small cafe menu for a cook's night out. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. "Possessing/storing food so bears/wild animals have access will result in a fine of at least $150."

Upper Sage Flat offers a range of amenities for visitors, enhancing the overall camping experience. Key facilities include paved parking aprons (most 40 feet long), flush toilets, potable drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings, and food storage lockers. However, there is some inconsistency in reviews regarding the presence of flush toilets. For example, one user noted in 2022 that 'In the facility description, there are flush toilets. In reality, there is no flush toilet and only one restroom in the entire facility,' suggesting possible recent changes or miscommunication.
