The elevation is 3,300 ft. The campground is part of the Pyramid Lake Recreation Area which includes Pyramid Lake and other facilities. The campground is composed of mostly sand, two single loops (1 and 2) that contain only reserveable camp sites and a third loop (3) that is first come, first serve. Loops 1 and 2 are located to the left of the entrance. Loop 3, composed of three overlapping secondary loops, is located to the right and up into a small canyon. Trees grow along the eastern side of Loop 3 and offer limited shade in the morning. Pyramid Lake is 2.1 miles from the campground. A small camp store offers snacks, ice, and limited groceries. Horseshoe and volleyball courts are available at entrance to Loops 1 and 2. Not far from the campground is the Vista Del Lago Vistor Center. With excellent displays, it explains the contruction, design and layout of California's water system(s). This is an educational, fascinating display - well worth the visit. Note: To use a campstove in campground during "fire season," you will need a California Campfire Permit available at the Ranger District Office.

Best season: fall. Fall offers the best balance of comfortable weather and low crowds — daytime highs are typically in the 70s–80s°F with cool nights in the 40s–50s°F, perfect for boating, fishing, hiking, and evening campfires. Lake levels are usually stable and winds calm down after spring, so water activities and wildlife viewing are at their peak. Fewer weekend crowds after Labor Day make shoreline campsites and trailheads easier to access, and the clear autumn skies are excellent for stargazing. Peak months: October, November, March, April Avoid: January, February
Fall noted as most comfortable: daytime highs in 70s–80s, calmer winds and thinner crowds.
