The elevation is 8,300 ft. The campground is one of two campgrounds in the Greer Lakes Recreation Area and is composed of six loops: Turkey, Bear, Squirrel, Beaver, Grouse and Wildcat. It is nestled among Ponderosa pines with needles and grass providing most of the understory. The campground is dedicated to a Forest Service employee who was killed in a forest fire in 1967. There is an amphitheater where programs are held Saturday evenings, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. There are also guided nature trail walks during the summer. Firewood, ice and battery charging are available. Across from the entrance to the campground is access to the Greer Lakes, actually three reservoirs: Tunnel, Bunch and River. Some water sports are available.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the clearest access and the most pleasant high-elevation weather — daytime highs are typically in the mid-60s to low-80s°F with cool nights in the 30s–50s°F, making it a welcome escape from Arizona’s lowland heat. Trail hiking, trout fishing, and wildlife viewing are at their peak, and the campground is fully open and reservable from mid-May through mid-September (peak services and maintained roads). Expect moderate crowds on summer weekends and afternoon monsoon thunderstorms June Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Peak season May–Sept; pleasant highs mid‑60s to low‑80s and many summer reviews
