Overview

<p>Horse Springs Campground includes new toilet facilities, a group ramada and a picnic area. Most of the campground is relatively accessible. The East Fork meanders through the forested valley shaded by tall ponderosa pines and bordered by grasses, alders, and streamside hardwoods.</p><p>Click <a href="http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5261589.jpg">here</a> for a map.</p>

About the campground

The elevation is 7,610 ft. The campground is pack it in, pack it out. It is one of six in the East Fork Recreation Area and is composed of two loops - Porcupine and Polecat. The loops are separated by a large picnic area. It is located along the East Fork of the Black River among Ponderosa pines on a grass understory. Firewood is available for a fee.

RV information

The parking aprons are a mix of paved and gravel. There are waste stations available, for a fee, at Big Lake Recreation Area (Forest Service) and Alpine Village RV Park, Alpine, AZ (private).

Directions

From Alpine, AZ, take US Rt. 191 north 1.4 miles to Big Lake sign (Forest Rt. 249). Turn left at sign onto Rt. 249 and go 5.3 miles to "Y" intersection (Forest Rt. 276). Bear left onto Rt. 276 and go 10.8 miles to campground on the left. NOTE: Forest Rt. 276 narrows to a single-lane (with turnouts) gravel road.
