Best Time to Camp at Florence Lake (East) Cabin

Mother Nature orchestrates a dramatic seasonal symphony at Florence Lake. Summer unveils the lake in all its glory, with float planes skimming across mirror-like waters under long daylight hours. As autumn arrives, morning mists dance across the water while the forest prepares for its winter slumber. Winter transforms the landscape into a crystalline wonderland, with the lake surface freezing solid and snow blanketing the surrounding peaks. Spring brings renewal as ice breaks apart and wildlife emerges from winter havens. Throughout the year, Southeast Alaska's signature rain showers sweep through, creating atmospheric conditions that range from mysterious fog-shrouded mornings to crystal-clear afternoons. Pack layers and rain gear—the weather here is as wild and unpredictable as the landscape itself.

Best
Summer(Jun-Aug)
4.5 / 5

Spring(Mar-May)
3.0 / 5

Open May 1; ice-free typically mid-May so early spring access/activities are limited.

Winter(Dec-Feb)
Not recommended

Frozen lake and limited floatplane access make winter visits impractical; site closed early year.
