Best season: summer. Summer offers the best balance of accessible services, mild daytime weather (typically 60–80°F) and long daylight for hiking, boating, fishing and wildlife viewing; the tent cabins are only open May 23–Aug 31. Nights are cool to cold (often dipping into the 30s–40s), so bring warm layers and a good sleeping bag. Afternoon thunderstorms are common—plan hikes for mornings and reserve boat launches and campsites well in advance because July and August are busiest. Peak months: July, August, June, May Avoid: September, October, November, December
Best season: services, rentals and trails fully available; mild days ideal for activities.
