Best season: winter. Winter is the best time to visit for solitude and classic snow-covered spruce-forest scenery, with daytime highs around 36°F and nights near 18°F providing crisp, stable cold ideal for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The small nine-site campground stays very quiet in winter and the creek and old-growth spruces take on a pristine, photogenic quality. Expect low crowds but plan for winter driving conditions—bring chains or a 4WD vehicle and check local road reports before traveling. Peak months: December, January, February
Winter noted as best for solitude and scenery; supports snowshoeing/XC skiing and has a nearby warming hut.
The Black Fox Campground is situated in a remote spruce forest adjacent to the South Fork Rapid Creek and features nine campsites. Restroom facilities are available, and the location is adjacent to the Black Fox Botanical Area. Campers can also access a snowmobile trail with a warming hut, making it a popular destination on weekends.
