<p>If you are looking for a base camp to explore area trails or a destination rustic campground with a family atmosphere, try the Anvil Lake Recreation Area off Highway 70 east of Eagle River.</p><p>The Anvil Lake Recreation Area on the Eagle River District consists of a campground with 18 campsites equipped with fire rings and picnic tables, wheel-chair accessible with easy access to drinking water and vault toilets.</p><p>Day use facilities include a 377-acre lake with crystal clear water, swim beach, paved boat launch, year-round fishing and access to the Anvil National Recreation Trail, one of the most popular trail systems in the area, that includes hiking and mountain biking and converts to a winter cross-country ski trail.</p><p>So, if you like to swim, boat, fish, hike, picnic or enjoy being close to town, then the Anvil Lake Recreation Area is the place for you, conveniently located just 15 minutes east of Eagle River. The Anvil Lake Recreation Area is pet friendly; See restrictions below for more information.</p>
The elevation is 1,480 ft. The campground is located close to Eagle River, WI and just off State Route 70 making it good for overnight campers or as a base camp for exploring the local sights. A single loop near the crystal blue Anvil Lake and start of Anvil National Recreation Trail, this campground has a full menu of activities for campers. Visit a 300-year-old white pine, hike to Franklin Lake, or just enjoy a good book by the campfire.

Summer offers the warmest, most reliable conditions for swimming, boating and paddling on Anvil Lake — expect daytime highs generally in the mid-70s to mid-80s°F with cool nights in the 50s–60s. Water-based activities (swimming, kayaking, fishing for bass/walleye/panfish) and family-friendly camping are at their peak, with morning lake mist turning into sunlit afternoons. Weekends can be busy at the small 18-site campground, so make reservations early for July–August or plan midweek visits for a Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: November, December, January, February
