OPEN FOR SEASON. NO CAMPFIRES

Lodgepole Campground offers outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to hike, fish, ski, raft and enjoy a multitude of outdoor recreational activities throughout the year. Beautiful rivers and streams, high elevation lakes, reservoirs, and small ponds provide an endless number of fishing opportunities for the experienced and beginning angler. The American River, adjacent to the campground, supports a variety of trout including rainbow, brook, and cutthroat. Lodgepole Campground offers several standard sites, accomodating both tent and RV camping. Picnic tables, vault toilets and drinking water are available, however there are no electrical hookups. Nearby Mount Rainier National Park offers fantastic glimpses of glaciers, subalpine ecology and volcanic landscapes. This campground is located along the American River off State Route 410.

The elevation is 3,600 ft. The southeast entrance (Stevens Canyon) to Mt. Rainier National Park is 22 miles from campground. The campground has two unnamed loops and a short spur along the American River. Each loop starts in a stand of Lodgepole pine and meanders back into a stand of larger mixed conifers including Tamarack and Douglas fir. Only a few sites overlook the river. Traffic noise and not the river can be heard throughout campground. Privacy is minimal among Lodgepole pine but improves to good among the old conifers. Salmon watching from some sites is a popular campground activity in late August. Possible day trips are Mt. Rainier National Park, Boulder Cave, and the historic Whistlin' Jack Restaurant for a cook's night out and General Store (and try the homemade donuts).
Open May 24 through September 4
The water spigot is a handpump.
The parking aprons are paved. The interior road and most of the pull- throughs are tight - large RVs are not recommended. A waste station with no potable water is available for a fee at JR Tire Factory, 10160 S. Naches Rd, Naches, WA.
From Cliffdell, WA, take State Rt. 410 west 18.7 miles to campground on right.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable weather and full access to the campground and river activities, with warm, sunny days (typically 65–80°F) and cool nights (40–55°F) ideal for camping. This is peak time for swimming, fishing, rafting on the American River, and for hiking higher trails that are snow-free; Mount Rainier day trips are also most convenient. Expect moderate to busy weekends in July–August, so book sites in advance if you want a weekend or holiday visit. Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
Summer is the reliable window (65–80°F), best for river access, hiking, and rafting; many positive summer reviews.
