Best season: fall. Early fall (especially early-to-mid September) is the best time to visit for crisp days, dramatic aspen color, and thinner crowds — expect daytime highs around 50–65°F and cool nights dipping into the 20s–30s°F at 8,000 ft. Fishing, shoreline wildlife viewing and scenic hikes are at their peak as the air clears after summer smoke and afternoon thunderstorm risk drops; photography of the red cliffs framed by gold aspens is exceptional. Note the campground closes September 19, so plan for the very Peak months: September, August, June, May Avoid: October, November, December, January
Early-mid Sept highlighted: 50–65°F days, nights cold, aspens turn gold; fewer bugs and great views.
