"Campers overwhelmingly praise Chippewa Loop at Norway Beach for its natural beauty, large wooded sites, and easy access to Cass Lake and its sandy beach. Many describe it as quiet, shady, and relaxing, with good trails and water-based recreation, and a high rate of repeat visitors. The most consistent downsides are aging, often dirty bathroom/shower facilities and lack of RV services like a dump station and clear water-fill options, plus some concerns about poison ivy and occasional rule enforcement issues."

About Chippewa Loop

Nestled along the pristine southern shore of Cass Lake, Chippewa Loop welcomes families to the heart of Norway Beach Recreation Area, where towering pines meet sparkling waters. This thoughtfully designed campground blends modern conveniences—including electric sites, hot showers, and flush toilets—with the timeless appeal of lakeside camping, making it an ideal base camp for anglers and boaters exploring one of Minnesota's most beloved waters.
Chippewa Loop contains 46 campsites, some on a first-come, first-served basis; thirty sites have electric hookups. Sites are located in a mature pine forest on the shore of Cass Lake, with some lakefront sites.
Historical SignificanceStep back in time at the nearby Norway Beach Visitor Center, where the craftsmanship of 1930s Civilian Conservation Corps workers is showcased in a stunning stone fireplace that anchors the building. Inside, thoughtful exhibits weave together the rich tapestry of Dakota and Ojibwe cultural heritage with the natural history of this remarkable landscape. Throughout the season, the center comes alive with community gatherings—from teaching young anglers their first cast during kid's fishing day to celebrating conservation icons at Smokey Bear's birthday party and witnessing majestic bald eagles during the annual Bald Eagle Day festivities.
Natural Features and SceneryImagine waking to sunrise filtering through a cathedral of mature red and white pines, with the gentle lapping of Cass Lake waters just steps from your tent. Select campsites offer front-row seats to the lake's ever-changing moods, while the surrounding forest provides cool shade and that distinctive North Woods fragrance. As part of the expansive Cass Lake Chain of Lakes system, you'll have access to nearly 16,000 acres of pristine water, 27 miles of forested shoreline dotted with sandy beaches, and countless hidden coves waiting to be discovered by kayak, canoe, or fishing boat.
