Canyon Forest Campground, Lostine River Road, Wallowa Whitman National Forest, Oregon, USA
Eagle Cap Wilderness hikers who want a quiet forest camp near the trailhead at 4,862 feet. Summer nights cool into the 30s, days stay mild, and the Lostine River runs alongside camp. Bring your own water, the on-site supply is dry.
No potable water on-site is a genuine logistical issue if you're not prepared to haul or filter. With only 10 sites and reservation required, it also fills fast, and there's no host, no hookups, and likely no cell signal to sort problems out remotely.
