Spring delivers the best conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging from 45 to 65°F and cool nights dropping to freezing or into the low 30s. Early spring brings melting snow and intermittent rain, but trails dry out as the season progresses. Wildflowers peak across Lytle Prairie during this time, and migratory birds return alongside emerging mammals. Crowds stay light compared to summer. The meadows offer excellent photography light, especially early and late in the day. Summer warms up considerably. Winter brings snow and freezing temperatures, creating quiet conditions for those comfortable with cold-weather camping. Fall offers crisp air and changing colors before the first snows arrive.
Authoritative note: spring delivers best conditions; wildflowers and melting snow enhance scenery.
There is a fresh water spring located at the campground; however, the water is not managed or treated by the Forest Service and therefore should not be used for human consumption in any capacity.
