Go if

Tent campers who carry their own water and want a free, uncrowded base camp in central Oregon. September and October hit the sweet spot: dry trails, clear skies, and golden prairie views about 45 miles from Prineville.

Skip if

No potable water on-site means you're hauling everything in. There's no RV access and trailers can't turn around, so this is strictly a tent-and-pack setup. Hunting season runs through fall, so orange layers are non-negotiable on the trails.
