Vehicles over 16 feet can't fit, and even shorter rigs will struggle with the tiny sites and tight parking. Anyone who forgets bug spray in late spring or early summer will regret it fast. No trash pickup means a full pack-out.

Elevation is 3,300 ft. The campground has two unnamed loops beside Timothy Lake in some woods of mixed conifers including White pine and Douglas fir. The west loop (left side) is on a small peninsula so most of its sites are along the lake's edge. The east loop (right side) has only a few sites on the lake's edge. Small maples and rhododendron abound and provide good privacy. Although busy on weekends, during the week the campground has a quiet peaceful atmosphere. An interpretive program is provided on weekends. There are some nice views of Mt. Hood. A possible day trip is a visit to the historic Clackamas Ranger Station, established in 1906. During the 1930s, it served as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp.
Open May 27 through first weekend in October.

Early fall, particularly September, hits the sweet spot. Daytime temperatures reach the mid-50s to low 70s, nights drop into the 30s and 40s. The creek calms after spring runoff, air clears from summer smoke, and crowds thin out. Golden forest colors appear before typical late-season haze arrives. Late spring brings wildflowers and rushing water from snowmelt, but also heavy mosquito activity. Winter transforms the area into snow country.
Early fall (September) described as the 'sweet spot' with quiet conditions and pleasant temps.
