Fall delivers the park's best conditions. Daytime temperatures run 45 to 65°F, nights are cool, and maple and oak foliage peaks across the hills and ravines. Trails stay comfortable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding without summer humidity. Harlow Lake fishing remains productive as fish feed heavily before winter. Weekends during peak color draw more visitors, but weekdays are peaceful. Winter brings snow for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Summer allows swimming and lakeside use, though humidity can be high.

Darien Lakes State Park is equipped with a variety of amenities including heated comfort stations, showers, a dump station, picnic tables, post grills, playgrounds, and a beach for swimming. Most campsites feature electricity, except for the 13 primitive sites which do not. Pets are allowed at all campsites with leash and rabies certificate restrictions. Additional amenities include basketball courts, cross-country skiing areas, fishing facilities, hiking trails, hunting areas, parking zones, restroom facilities, snowmobiling opportunities, and a water fill-up station.
