Recently refurbished roadside campground sits near historic Red River mining area and downhill ski resort. Can be very crowded during summer weekends. As an alternative, try BLM's Wild Rivers Recreation Area north of Questa.

The elevation is 8,500 ft. The campground stretches along the fast-flowing Red River with several waterfront sites. It is convenient to State Rt. 38 and well situated for day trips on the Enchanted Circle and the town of Red River. The sound of the Red River can be heard throughout the campground. Sites 9 through 12 are very rocky making it a challenge for tent campers to find a smooth spot. The campground is dominated by mature spruce with a mixture of cottonwoods, fir and conifers. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend - weather dependent

Best season: fall. Fall delivers the clearest advantage at Junebug — vivid aspen and cottonwood color, crisp daytime weather (typically 45–60°F) and chilly nights (often 20–30°F) make riverside hikes, photography and fishing especially rewarding. Cooler water and quieter campsites bring good trout action in the Red River while elk and other wildlife become more active and visible during rutting and pre-winter movements. Expect far fewer weekend crowds than midsummer, but be aware hunting seasons overlap parts of秋; Peak months: September, October, June, July
Fall is highlighted as the clearest advantage: aspens, cottonwoods, cooler temps and better fishing.
