Natural Features and SceneryAncient glaciers carved this valley thousands of years ago, leaving behind deep, cold waters and a dramatic mountain backdrop. Seeley Lake is part of the local Chain of Lakes connected by the Clearwater River. Old-growth Western larch. Some over 500 years old. Shade the campsites, their needles turning brilliant gold in fall. The lake shoreline and surrounding forest attract deer, elk, eagles, great blue herons, and trumpeter swans. Moose, bighorn sheep, and bears also move through the area. One standout is the Girard Grove, home to "Gus," a larch more than 1,000 years old with a trunk over seven feet in diameter.
