No shade anywhere on the open prairie means summer days are brutal without a sun shelter. Tent campers also wrestle with rocky gravel ground that fights tent stakes, and there are no showers.
Compare with similar sites, watch availability, and build a packing list — Camp Sage handles all of it.
Fall delivers the best conditions. Daytime temperatures run 45–65°F with calm winds, low insect activity, and glassy lake surfaces that showcase the water's clarity. The prairie grasses turn golden against the blue lake. Nights drop near freezing, but the uncrowded campsites and excellent stargazing make it worthwhile. Summer brings heat and limited shade. Reviewers recommend bringing a sun shelter.
