Long Branch State Park's sites 41-72 sit in the main developed loop with electric hookups, paved access, and level concrete pads that handle large RVs. The campground puts you steps from Long Branch Lake's marina, three boat ramps, and a family swimming beach. All 32 sites include fire rings and picnic tables, with modern restrooms and showers nearby.
The park has a modern campground with a mix of electric RV sites and walk-in/basic tent sites; marina and boat-access recreation are focal points.
Weather and SeasonsSummer delivers the best combination of warm weather and full lake access. Daytime highs reach the mid-80s to mid-90s°F, with water temperatures in the mid-70s to low-80s°F ideal for swimming and boating. Mornings are excellent for hiking before the heat builds, and trailside wildflowers attract active wildlife. Summer weekends and holidays draw the biggest crowds. Spring and fall bring comfortable temperatures for hiking, though lake activities taper off as water cools. The campground will be closed throughout 2026 for improvements.
Natural Features and SceneryLong Branch Lake dominates the landscape, its open water dotted with small island beaches visible from the shoreline. Sites closer to the water offer direct lake views, while the swimming beach slopes gently into water that reaches the mid-70s to low-80s°F by midsummer. Beyond the developed areas, the park preserves remnants of tallgrass prairie and oak savanna in the Chariton River Hills Natural Area. Trails wind through wildflower meadows and wooded sections, though the Bee Trace Trail crosses patches of poison ivy and tick habitat.
