This campground sits on the shores of Long Branch Lake in Missouri's Chariton River Hills, offering 51 sites split between two areas (1-40 and 73-83). Three boat ramps provide lake access, and a swim beach draws families during summer. The campground will be closed throughout 2026 for improvements.
Weather and SeasonsSummer delivers the fullest lake experience. Warm water for swimming and boating, reliable highs around 85-90°F, nights in the mid-60s. Fishing peaks, all three boat ramps stay busy, and prairie wildlife watches stretch into long evenings. Expect crowds on holiday weekends and at the beach. The campground stays open April through October with full water and shower facilities. Electric hookups run year-round for quieter shoulder-season visits, but water facilities close in winter. Winter brings wind. Remember: the campground closes for all of 2026, so plan visits after reopening.
Natural Features and SceneryLong Branch Lake stretches across rolling hills where scattered post oak, black oak, and shagbark hickory dot the ridgetops. The shoreline borders one of Missouri's few remaining Chariton River Hills savannas, where native prairie wildflowers grow alongside woodland edges. Red-headed woodpeckers, brown thrashers, and indigo buntings move through the oaks. In winter, Snow Buntings and various waterfowl use the lake. White oak and bur oak fill the lower slopes and creek bottoms. Campers report island beaches accessible by boat and scenic views across the water.
