Campground 1 sites sit inland, so lake views are filtered at best and some campers end up driving to the waterfront. Heavy tick seasons mean repellent is non-negotiable, and there's no park Wi-Fi if connectivity matters to your trip.

The reservoir has approximately 97 water surface acres, 142 land acres and 3 miles of shoreline. It stores, regulates, and diverts water from the Colorado River on the western slope of the Continental Divide to the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains.Developments at the Lake include 3 campgrounds with 18 campsites and 1 boat-launch ramp. Access is good. Only no-wake power boating is allowed. Primary recreational activities include fishing, camping, and boating. Primary sport fish available are rainbow trout. Summer delivers warm water and long days for swimming, paddling, and full use of Forest Lake. Daytime highs reach 80–90°F, overnight lows settle in the mid-60s. Lake-based activities peak during these months, and most park services run on full schedules. Weekends and holiday weeks fill fast, so weekday stays or early reservations help avoid crowds. Spring through fall all work well. One camper stayed in early April right after shower houses opened and found warm facilities and a quiet park. Another enjoyed October camping and trail hiking. Winter brings a quieter rhythm, with some facilities reducing hours or closing until warmer weather returns.
Peak season with warm weather, perfect for water activities. Book early.
