Summer offers the most reliable weather for horse camping. Expect warm, mostly dry days in the mid-70s to low 80s°F and cool nights in the 50s to 60s, which keeps trails firm and comfortable for long rides. Lakes warm up for swimming and boating, fishing is productive, and park facilities. Showers, flush toilets, dump station. Typically open mid-May through mid-October. This is when the equestrian campground is most active, so expect busier weekends and to encounter other riders on the trails. Late spring and early fall offer cooler temperatures, fewer bugs, and less crowding, though full amenities may not be available outside the core summer season. The park is open year-round, but most horse camping reviews reference late spring through fall visits.
