No pets allowed, so leave the dog home. Also, no potable water at the sites and mattress comfort is thin, pack bedding and a water supply, or the cozy cabin promise wears off fast.

Fall is the best time to visit for crisp weather, brilliant prairie-to-hardwood foliage, and lower crowds. Ideal for peaceful paddles on Annie Battle Lake and trail walks. Daytime highs typically range from the mid-40s to mid-60s°F (5–18°C) in September–October, with cool, clear mornings that make boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing especially pleasant. Angling and paddling peak as water temperatures cool, and you'll encounter far fewer weekend crowds than in midsummer. Summer beckons swimmers to the small sandy beach and anglers to quiet coves. Winter transforms the landscape: gas heaters keep the cabins cozy while groomed trails invite cross-country skiing and snowshoeing under starlit skies.
