No pets allowed, so leave the dog at home. Also worth knowing: there's no potable water listed at the campground itself, no dump station for RV holding tanks, and no camp store, so arrive stocked and plan tank logistics in advance.

Summer is prime for the sandy swim pond, boating on the Big Cottonwood River, and long, shady hikes under the hardwood canopy. Expect typical southern Minnesota July highs in the low 80s°F and nighttime lows in the low-to-mid 60s°F. Water activities, family beach days, and wildlife-viewing from the riverside trails peak in summer, though weekends and holiday weeks can be noticeably busier. Shade from mature oaks keeps sites comfortable even on warm afternoons. Spring and fall bring cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and changing foliage on the bluffs and prairies. Winter transforms the trails into groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe routes, with a heated beach house warming area for cold-weather recreation. Note that the swim pond, beach house concessions, some restrooms, and shower buildings close during the colder months.
Hardwood canopy and bluffs likely offer good fall color and enjoyable hiking.
