White Pine Canoe Camp sits along the Au Sable River about 15.5 miles east of Grayling, accessible primarily by paddle. The five primitive tent sites operate first-come, first-served at $68 per night. Hand-pump well water, vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables cover the basics for paddlers working their way downriver.

Weather and SeasonsSummer is the primary season when water levels stabilize and daily highs reach the mid-70s to low-80s°F with nights in the 50s–60s. The shade from the pine canopy makes midday heat manageable, and the river stays accessible for paddling and swimming. Weekends see more floaters passing through, but the paddle-in access keeps crowds thinner than road-accessible campgrounds. Spring runoff can make paddling trickier, and fall brings cooler nights that require warmer gear.
Natural Features and SceneryThe campground occupies a wooded corridor along the main branch of the Au Sable at 587 feet elevation. Pines shade the tent sites, which spread out along the riverbank with room between them. The current here is gentle enough for swimming and steady enough for trout fishing. Herons, osprey, and river otters move through regularly. The forest canopy keeps sites cool even on warm summer afternoons, and the river provides the main backdrop.
