Bring every drop of your own drinking water. The on-site hand pump is not potable, there's no dump station, no hookups, and no hiking trails. The campground host gets mixed reviews at best, with several campers specifically calling out rude interactions.

The lake is 1,600 acres and nearly surrounded by residences. The west end of the lake is marshy and good for wildlife viewing. The elevation is 1,420 ft. The campground is a single loop between South Lake Mitchell Drive and the west end of Lake Mitchell. Pull-through sites are between campground entrance and boat ramp and overlook private land. The majority of sites are along the lakeshore with a few having a view of the lake. The campground is partly surrounded by marsh land (bring mosquito spray) providing wildlife viewing. Campers must share Lake Mitchell with surrounding residents. Campground is particularly attractive in early Summer when the marshland's wild iris are blooming.

Summer brings the most reliable conditions, with daytime highs between 70 and 85°F and nights in the 55 to 65°F range. This is when Lake Mitchell access matters most for boating and fishing. Early summer also coincides with the wild iris bloom and peak wildlife activity. July and August weekends draw moderate to high crowds, so plan ahead for the limited lakefront sites. Mosquitoes and ticks are active during warm months. The campground closes in late fall.
Summer praised for lush scenery, boating and wildlife; mosquitoes noted as drawback.
