Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument offers a variety of amenities that focus on a rustic and natural camping experience. Campsites, lean-tos, and huts are dispersed throughout the monument, some accessible only by hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, or snowshoeing. Most campsites have picnic tables and stone or metal fire rings. Bear-proof food storage lockers are available at some sites. Vault or pit toilets are present, while flush toilets are not available. Campfires require a permit except at certain designated sites. During the winter, huts are equipped with wood stoves, hand pumps, sinks, and bunks. The monument emphasizes Leave No Trace practices.
