Visitors enjoy 27 miles of historic motor roads, 158 miles of hiking trails, and 45 miles of carriage roads.
From Boston take I-95 north to Augusta, Maine, then Route 3 east to Ellsworth, and on to Mount Desert Island. For an alternate route, continue on I-95 north to Bangor, Maine, then take I-395 to U.S. Route 1A east to Ellsworth. In Ellsworth, take Route 3 to Mount Desert Island.

Trails and carriage roads are quieter after Labor Day, making it ideal for hiking, shoreline photography, wildlife viewing and short boat trips without the high summer crowds. Seawall Campground offers a variety of amenities catering primarily to tent campers, with some accommodations for RVs up to 35 ft. Flush toilets, running water, paved roads, picnic tables, and fire rings are provided. "Flush toilets, running water and a dump station are provided, as are picnic tables and fire rings. Roads are paved." The use of portable showers is prohibited, though fee-based showers can be found approximately one mile from the campground. "***Fee shower facilities and camping supply stores are located 1 mile from the campground. There are no showers in the campground. The use of portable showers is prohibited.***" Generators are restricted in most loops, ensuring quieter stays for campers. A picnic area located across the entrance offers scenic spots for meals.
