Light sleepers will struggle. Every site sits close enough to the highway that reviewers specifically recommend earplugs for the vehicle and train noise. No potable water (hand pump only) and no cell info on record either.

This campground is located in the canyon bottom along the Clark Fork River. The site is adjacent to the highway and across the road from the river, and forested with Douglas-fir, ponderosa pine and western larch providing abundant shade. Fishing opportunities are available at the river. The Iron Mountain Trail #242, historic wagon road, terminus is in the campground.

Summer delivers the most reliable camping weather, with daytime highs in the mid-70s to low 80s°F and nights dropping to the low 40s-50s°F. River flows settle after spring snowmelt, making boating and fishing safer and more productive. Long daylight hours stretch into evening, ideal for hiking and campfire time. Early fall brings cooler temperatures and the western larch color show before the season ends in September.
Western larch turn brilliant gold in fall; scenic canyon colors enhance autumn visits (campground open into fall).
