Lake Louisa State Park Campground sits on the Lake Wales Ridge about 30 minutes west of Orlando, offering 60 sites that range from full-hookup RV spots to primitive walk-in areas. The campground spreads across rolling sandhills and pine flatwoods, with several sites and cabins facing Dixie Lake. Fees start at $5 per night.
Includes 20 furnished cabins on Dixie Lake, a developed family campground with 60 full-facility campsites (electrical hookups and sites that accommodate large rigs), an equestrian primitive camp, and two remote pack‑in primitive campsites.
Weather and SeasonsSpring delivers the most comfortable window. March through May brings daytime highs in the 65–85°F range, lows in the 50s and 60s, and lower humidity than summer. Water levels are good for paddling, trails dry out, and wildflowers and migrating birds show up along the shorelines. October through April is pleasant overall. Summer is hot. One September glamping review mentioned 90°F+ heat that even the AC couldn't fully tame until evening. Afternoon thunderstorms are routine in the warmer months. If you camp in July or August, expect bugs, heat, and the trails mostly to yourself.
Natural Features and SceneryThe park weaves together three distinct landscapes: rolling sandhills crowned with longleaf pine, flat pine scrub, and cypress-dotted wetlands that fringe the lakes. Three lakes. Louisa, Dixie, and Hammond. Anchor the property at 108 feet elevation. Visitors report alligators, gopher tortoises, wading birds, and deer throughout the park. Lakefront sites look directly onto Dixie Lake, and reviewers single out the sunsets. One camper called site 30 "right on the lake" with unobstructed water views. Cabin 12 faces west for what guests describe as spectacular evening light. The interior sites sit under oaks and palmettos with less of the vista but more shade.
