Lafayette Blue Springs State Park sits where a first-magnitude spring flows into the Suwannee River in rural North Florida. The Cabin Loop offers elevated rental cabins on stilts above the riverbank, with porches overlooking forest and water. The park also has a primitive pack-in tent area (no vehicle access) and a group site for up to 30 people. Day-use fees run $5 per vehicle. Cell service is spotty throughout the park.
The park provides rental cabins, a tent-only pack-in campground, primitive camping sites and a primitive group camping area.
Historical Significance
The park opened in 2005 to preserve a notable first-magnitude spring along the historic Suwannee River corridor.Weather and SeasonsSummer is the best time because hot, humid North Florida days (typical highs about 88–95°F) make the spring's constant 72°F water especially refreshing for swimming, snorkeling, and boating. Long daylight hours and consistent warm weather put fishing, paddling on the Suwannee, and cabin stays at their peak, though weekend visitor levels rise. Be prepared for frequent afternoon thunderstorms and the possibility of river flooding after heavy rains. Check park conditions before you go. Late winter and early spring can bring high Suwannee levels that flood the spring area and parts of the nature trail, obscuring the spring and limiting access.
Natural Features and SceneryThe centerpiece is a crystal-clear spring flowing beneath a natural limestone bridge, revealing an extensive cave system below. The spring holds a constant 72°F and merges with the dark, tannic Suwannee River a short distance downstream. Ancient oaks draped in Spanish moss shade the spring run and riverbanks, and hardwood forest shelters the cabin area. Elevated boardwalks and stairs lead to overlooks of the spring basin, its rocky walls, and the river bluffs. Wildlife includes river otters, wading birds, turtles, and typical North Florida songbirds and small mammals. When the Suwannee floods after heavy rain, the spring can disappear underwater, turning the blue basin murky brown until the river drops.
Scenic ViewsPicnic areas overlook the spring and the Suwannee River; the cabins stand on stilts high above the river bank and provide river and forest views. Boardwalks and stairs lead to overlooks of the spring run and natural limestone bridge.
