<p>Six Mile Gap Campground is 2 miles off Highway 230. <font color="#2b170e">Located in a saddle above the North Platte River</font> and provides access to the North Platte River and Platte River Wilderness Area.</p><p><strong>NUMBER OF SITES: </strong>6 and 3 pull-thru sites<br /><strong>MAX TRAILER LENGTH: </strong>30</p><p><strong>AMENITIES: </strong>Picnic tables, bear canisters for food storage, vault toilets, potable water, fire grates and trash service.</p><p><strong>ELEVATION: 7,606</strong></p><p><strong>FIRE BANS/RESTRICTIONS: </strong><br />Please check with the Brush Creek Hayden Ranger station prior to your arrival to find out if campfires are allowed as fire restrictions and fire bans can go into effect at any given time. For most current updates, call 307-326-5258</p><p><strong>CAMP HOST ON SITE: </strong>No<strong> </strong></p><p><strong>PETS:</strong> Allowed, but must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and under control at all times.</p><p><strong>ACTIVITIES:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>FLOATING: </strong>North Platte River. A separate parking area is available for hikers and river floaters.</li><li><strong>HIKING:</strong> Platte River Trail (<strong><em>For details on this trail go to homepage, click recreation, click day hiking, click the area.</em></strong></li><li><strong>FISHING: </strong><ul><li>The North Platte River is classified as a blue-ribbon trout stream by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD). Fish species present include brook, brown and rainbow trout. <em><strong>*Special fishing regulations apply to the North Platte River upstream of Saratoga, Wyoming.</strong></em></li><li>Douglas Creek also offers good fishing opportunities.<ul><li><strong>All watercraft (except for inflatables 10’ or less in length) must have a valid Wyoming Aquatic Invasive Species decal. <p>Welcome to Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests and Thunder Basin National Grassland! Visitor opportunities abound on almost 2.9 million acres of National Forest System lands.</p> <p>The Medicine Bow and Routt National Forests provide year-round recreation opportunities for you. These activities include hiking, biking, camping, horseriding, OHV riding, fishing and hunting, just to name a few. Beautiful vistas await sightseers and photographers.</p> <p>The topography varies greatly within the national forests. Elevation ranges from 5,500 to 12,940 feet. The climate ranges from semi-arid at low elevations to colder and less arid in the high country. Frost may occur at any time, and visitors to the higher elevations should be prepared for harsh weather, including snow and high winds, even during the summer months.</p> <p>The Thunder Basin National Grassland provides unique opportunities for recreation, including hiking, sightseeing, hunting, and fishing. There are no developed campgrounds; however, dispersed camping is allowed. Elevation on the national grassland ranges from 3,600 to 5,200 feet, and the climate is semi-arid.</p> <p><strong><strong>The following recreation conditions report includes a sampling of our recreation sites. Best season: summer. Summer offers full access to the Snowy Range at comfortable high‑country temperatures (typically daytime highs around 55–75°F and nighttime lows in the 30s–40s), making it ideal for long hikes, fishing on the North Platte, paddling/boating, and high‑elevation wildlife viewing. Trails and access roads are generally clear by June and all campground services (potable water, vault toilets, fire grates, bear boxes) are available, so you can make the most of alpine wildflowers, panoramic peak views, и Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: October, November, December, January
