Best season: summer. Summer offers the best combination of reliable access, warm daytime weather (typically 60–75°F) and excellent hiking and trout fishing conditions along the North Fork Cache la Poudre River. Trails and riverbanks are fully melted out by July and August, wildflowers are at their peak in early summer, and clear nights make for spectacular stargazing; daytime crowds are moderate with busier summer holiday weekends. Note that nights remain cool (often 30s–40s°F) because of the 9,177 ft elevation, so带 Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: December, January, February
Summer brings most reliable access; trails and riverbanks are fully melted and wildflowers peak.
The North Fork Poudre Campground is a relatively small and older facility located near Red Feather Lakes. It features nine campsites, each equipped with a picnic table, tent pad, and fire grate. Vault toilets are available on-site, but there are no power or water hookups, and larger RVs cannot be accommodated due to short parking spurs. This campground is described as peaceful and secluded, with a dense lodgepole pine forest providing an enclosed, shaded environment. Reviews mention basic amenities but appreciate the quiet and scenic setting.
