Boulder Flat Campground sits at 5,600 feet along the Stanislaus River in Stanislaus National Forest, about 20 miles east of Mi-Wuk Village. The campground has 20 tent sites with vault toilets, picnic tables, and no potable water. Sites run $15-25 per night and offer better privacy than most riverside campgrounds in the area.
Boulder Flat Campground provides camping options primarily for tents, along with a few walk-in sites and one double site. RV camping is limited due to narrow and tight interior roads.
Weather and SeasonsFall delivers the best conditions. Daytime highs range from the 50s to low 70s, with nights dropping into the 20s and 40s. The cooler water temperatures improve fishing, and the mixed conifers and riverside hardwoods show late-season color. Weekday visits in fall are quieter than summer, though you'll want blaze orange if hunting season overlaps your trip. Summer brings warmer days but also weekend crowds and road noise from nearby Highway 108.

Natural Features and SceneryThe campground spreads through mixed-conifer forest dominated by ponderosa pine and cedar, with scattered green lichen marking the older trees. Sites sit mostly in open clearings rather than dense shade. The Stanislaus River runs close enough for fishing access and provides constant background noise. The elevation keeps summer temperatures moderate but makes spring and fall noticeably cooler than lower-elevation campgrounds on the western slope. Recent fire activity has left some areas with standing dead trees and partial canopy loss.
