Two highways enter the parks. Hwy 180 from Fresno leads east to Kings Canyon National Park, then continues 30 miles east to Cedar Grove. Hwy 198 from Visalia leads east to Sequoia National Park via Three Rivers. Inside the parks, Highway 198 becomes the Generals Highway, which connects 198 to 180. Vehicles over 22-feet long should enter the parks via Highway 180. In winter, the Generals Highway between the parks often closes. Chains may be required on park roads. No roads cross these parks east to west.

Summer offers the most reliable access and the best weather for high‑Sierra recreation — expect daytime highs around 65–80°F (18–27°C) and crisp nights in the 35–50°F (2–10°C) range. Trails to higher meadows and granite viewpoints are fully snow‑free, ranger campfire programs run regularly, and fishing and wildlife viewing are at their peak. Crystal Springs Campground offers a variety of amenities. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, a fire ring, and a food storage box to protect supplies from wildlife. Additionally, the campground provides flush toilets and potable water. However, there are no shower facilities. The campground is situated near Grant Grove Village, which has a visitor center, restaurant, gift store, post office, and market. Nightly campfire programs are offered at a nearby amphitheater.
