Weather and SeasonsBest season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of comfortable daytime temperatures, lower crowds, and top-notch fishing — water temps cool and trout are active. Expect crisp days in the 50s–60s°F (10–18°C) and chilly nights around the 25–40°F (-4–4°C), with golden aspen and cottonwood color peaking in September–October. Trails are usually dry, mosquitoes are diminished, and you'll often find more solitude for hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing than in mid-summer.

Natural Features and SceneryThe West Fork of the Carson River runs through the campground, its cold water holding trout year-round. At this elevation, cottonwoods and aspens line the banks and turn gold in late September through October. Deer move through camp at dawn and dusk to drink. The terrain is typical Sierra transition zone: pine and fir on the slopes, willows and deciduous trees along the water.
