A paved trail starts just a few miles south of the campground at the entrance to Olympic Valley. Walkers, skaters, and bike riders can follow the paved trail to Tahoe City and beyond as it parallels the Truckee River, or head west into Olympic Valley for food and entertainment. Campers also enjoy swimming and tubing on the river. Rafting opportunities may be available in the summertime in Tahoe City. Fly-fishing on the Truckee River is also a popular activity. Special restrictions apply.

No camping or campfires allowed outside of developed campgrounds.

The elevation is 6,000 ft. The campground, with two loops and a spur off the right hand loop, stretches out between State Rt. 89 and Truckee River. The campsites are shaded by fir and Lodgepole pine. There are seven walk-in tent sites overlooking the Truckee River. A sharp turn makes accessing the right-side loop from the smaller loop difficult. All pull-throughs are in the left-side loop. The right-side loop has all the tent sites and the campground's only hand pump. Traffic noise can be heard throughout campground. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
Open May 19 through October 8
The water spigot is a hand pump.
The parking aprons are gravel and dirt. Campsites 19 through 21 are on a dead end - no turnaround. An RV waste station, with no potable water, is available for a fee at Chevron gas station at west end of Truckee, CA

Best season: summer. Summer delivers the most reliable warm weather (daytime highs mid-70s to low-80s, nights cooling to the mid-40s) and full access to the Truckee River for swimming, floating, and riverbank fishing. Trailheads and forest roads are clear, making hiking and mountain biking straightforward and safe; river flows are lower and calmer than spring runoff, so floating is at its peak. Expect higher visitation on holiday weekends and summer evenings can be busy, so reserve a site and arrive early on peak et Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Summer is prime season: warm days, safe floating after runoff, trails and roads clear.

Silver Creek Campground offers essential amenities for a convenient camping experience. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are available on-site. Some user reviews noted the presence of bear-proof food storage lockers, which were appreciated for keeping food safe from wildlife. However, there are no shower facilities, and potable water has been described in reviews as having a taste that some campers found unpleasant or overly treated. "The bathrooms were the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever experienced while camping," one user shared. Firewood is available for purchase from the campground host, and trash collection services are provided, but some users felt the campground was relatively basic in its offerings.
