Kanaskat-Palmer State Park sits on a forested plateau 892 feet above the Green River, about an hour southeast of Seattle. The park offers 62 campsites (tent, RV, and group) spread across wooded loops, with hot showers, electric hookups, and trails leading down to the river for fishing and boating. Train horns from a nearby railroad and occasional volunteer fire station sirens can be loud at night.
A mix of standard tent sites, RV sites (with some electrical hookups), group site(s) and rentable yurts offered by the park.
Weather and SeasonsSummer brings the warmest, sunniest conditions and the widest range of activities. Expect daytime highs in the mid-60s to high-70s°F and cool nights in the low-50s. River flows mellow, making swimming holes, boating, and fishing safer and more pleasant. Trails stay dry and accessible. Weekends fill up fast, so reserve early. Autumn turns the riverbank deciduous trees gold and crimson. Hot showers make shoulder-season camping comfortable in spring and fall.
Natural Features and ScenerySecond-growth evergreens create heavy shade and privacy across the campground. Below the plateau, the Green River cuts through the Green River Gorge, carving past boulders and bedrock. Trails wind down through the forest to rocky riverbanks and gravel bars where you can fish, wade, or watch rafters navigate the current. The river's character shifts with the season. High and fast during spring snowmelt, slower and clearer by late summer.
