Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable weather and easiest access—daytime highs are typically in the mid-60s to mid-80s °F (18–29 °C) with cool nights in the 40s–50s °F (4–13 °C). River wading, riverside camping, birding and back-to-basics solitude are at their peak, and the 11 first-come, first-served sites are easiest to reach when roads are clear. Expect busier weekends and limited cell service, so plan to arrive early and bring offline permits or Recreation.gov QR payment info. Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: December, January, February
