Go if

Tent campers who pack all their water and don't mind a slow, white-knuckle drive will find real solitude here. The Blue Mountain summit is a short hike from camp, site 9 gets regular wildlife, and summer nights deliver Milky Way views that are hard to match this close to a city.

Skip if

Arrive expecting any hookups, running water, or a level sleeping pad and you'll be disappointed. The access road is genuinely scary for cautious drivers, weekend sites fill fast, and the whole place shuts down from late fall through late spring.
