Go if

Equestrians, hikers, and mountain bikers who want trailhead-door access at zero cost. July and August hit the sweet spot: trails are dry, the shaded grove keeps temps manageable, and weekday arrivals lock down one of only six sites without stress.

Skip if

No potable water on site means hauling your own drinking supply, and there are no corrals, highlines, or hitching rails, so riders who need full horse infrastructure will find this too bare-bones.

Overview

This shaded horse camp is located across the road from the Old Stage/Midnight Ridge Trailhead, which offers a great horseback, hiking, or mountain biking loop opportunity. The 6-unit campground offers parking spurs, picnic tables, rock fire rings, creek access for watering stock, and an outhouse. The area is fenced with cattleguards to keep cattle out. There is a 6-foot bypass gate adjacent to the entrance road cattleguard to allow stock users access to the trail system. There are currently no corrals, highlines, or hitching rails at this campground.
