About Townshend State Park

Nestled at the foot of Bald Mountain along the scenic West River, Townshend State Park invites you to step back in time with its beautifully preserved CCC-built structures and classic tent platforms. This intimate, wooded campground delivers an authentic back-to-basics camping experience, complete with rewarding hiking trails up Bald Mountain and peaceful picnic spots perfect for gathering with family and friends.

The campground contains 30 tent/trailer sites and 4 lean-to sites and features historic CCC-style raised tent platforms for a rustic camping experience.

Historical Significance

The park and many of its stone buildings were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during the Great Depression. The campground contains the only Vermont State Park campground with CCC-style tent platforms and the park retains several historic CCC-era features.
