Tent campers will fight rocky ground and burs on nearly every site, with no proper tent pads. The beach also draws reports of broken glass, and free-roaming cattle plus a Parvo warning make it rougher for dog owners than it sounds.

Spring brings the best camping window, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to mid-80s and nights in the 40s–50s. The reservoir warms enough for swimming without the crowds that arrive in summer, when temperatures climb above 90°F. Winter nights drop to 30°F. Fall offers similar comfort to spring with clear skies and moderate temperatures around 70°F. Weekdays stay quiet even during peak seasons.
Described as the best window; waterfalls season, comfortable temps and good swimming without peak crowds.
