No potable water on-site, vault toilets that reviewers describe as rough-smelling, zero cell signal in the valley, and a first-come system that leaves weekend arrivals empty-handed more often than not.

Late October works well. Fall temps run mid-40s to mid-60s°F during the day, with crisp nights and peak foliage. The cooler weather cuts down on bugs and thins out the crowds compared to summer, though weekends still see moderate use. Spring brings wildflower blooms and high water from snowmelt. Summer attracts families and paddlers, making it harder to snag a riverside site under the first-come system. Winter camping is possible but challenging, with snow-covered trails and frozen riverbanks.
Fall praised for vibrant foliage and fewer visitors; late October noted as ideal by reviewers.
